William “Billy” F. Koonz Jr.,53, was found deceased at his home in South Plainfield, NJ. He was born in Summit and raised in Springfield.

Billy's education included Oratory Prep,Summit, NJ; Lafayette College, Easton, PA; Seton Hall U., South Orange,NJ graduating with a BA in Business. He earned an MBA from Phoenix U. Phoenix, AZ. He is the owner of WilPat Irrigation LLC originally based in Springfield now located in South Plainfield. Billy was a former professional firefighter with the Springfield Fire Department and an active volunteer firefighter with the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department. He was a motorcycle and race car enthusiast and enjoyed playing ice hockey and golf. He was a past member at Baltusrol Golf Club. Billy had no greater passion then fighting fire, to help those in need. He had great respect for the people he served and great loyalty to his brother firefighters.  Son of Marlene and William F. Koonz Sr. of Melbourne, FL. Father of Maggie Koonz of South Plainfield and Molly Koonz of Allentown, PA. Brother of Patricia A. Kolb of Berkeley Heights, NJ and Barbara J. Koonz of Chesterfield,NJ. Nephew of Frances Pat Lee, William and Barbara Detrick, Kenneth Pinney, and Catherine McFall.  Also surviving are many cousins.   In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department, 123 Maple Ave.South Plainfield, NJ 07080 or to the New Jersey Crime Victims' Law Center, 113 Parsippany Road, Parsippany, NJ 07054.
