ICE RESCUE PREP
Friday, January 29, 2010
-
Special thanks to the Senior and Junior members who braved the cold to create the training ice at the rear of Borough Hall today for the weekend ice rescue training class.  Circumstances beyond our control forced the department to cancel the use of Spring Lake and look for a secondary location.  In anticipation of not being able to locate and obtain the requred permission in a expeditious time frame, a temporary ice area was created to allow the training to continue.  Nice job!

Chemical Spill at 600 Corporate Ct.
Thursday, January 28, 2010
-
Fire units responded to an automatic fire alarm today at the 600 Corporate Court complex.  Arriving units were advised that the alarm was due to a power failure.  Upon further investigation, it was determined that an electrical failure of a lab exhaust system resulted in chemical fumes being distributed into two labs.  Fire units evacuated the building and special called County Hazmat.  Occupants provided MSDS sheets consistent with the materials they were using at the time of the power failure.  Hazmat arrived and determined that a level "A" entry was needed.  This was accomplished and the materials involved were neutralized and secured.  Occupants were allowed back into the building around 15:45 hours.

2nd Alarm House Fire - Clark Lane
Tuesday, January 12, 2010
-
At approximately 15:45 hours on Tuesday afternoon the Central Dispatch center received a call for a fire at a residence on Clark Lane. As fire personnel and apparatus were responding, reports from the scene were confirming a working fire. First arriving Firefighters confirmed that all occupants were out of the structure and an immediate second alarm was transmitted. High wind conditions caused the fire conditions to increase and immediate concerns for the exposures became an issue requiring the exposure buildings to be evacuated as a precaution. Engine 6 arrived and as the initial lines were being stretched to protect the exposure and to attack the heavy fire conditions the deck gun was put into operation for a short time. Truck 7 set up and performed roof ventilation and overhaul. Plainfield Fire Engine 4 responded to the scene and was immediately put to work to assist in fire suppression on the second floor. A total of four lines were stretched to extinguish the fire conditions throughout the structure. Mutual aid companies from Colonia Fire, Metuchen Fire and North Stelton Fire responded to fire headquarters to cover any additional calls throughout the town. The heavy fire condition was knocked out within minutes but extensive overhaul continued afterwards and the fire was placed under control within 1 hour. The occupants of the structure escaped unharmed and one Firefighter was treated at the scene for a minor injury. The South Plainfield Bureau of Fire Prevention will be conducting the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire.
